Grandparent Scam

Grandparent Scam Β· English

How This Scam Works

Scammers impersonate a grandchild or other loved one in distress, often claiming to be in legal trouble or an emergency. They pressure the victim to send money immediately, usually in cash or through untraceable methods, to resolve the fabricated crisis. Scammers often use urgency and secrecy to prevent victims from verifying the story with other family members.

Who Is Targeted

Senior citizens, particularly grandparents, are typically targeted due to their perceived generosity and potential vulnerability to emotional appeals. They may also be less familiar with modern technology used by scammers.
